I have been with Learning Seat for over three years now, and I am very proud to say that I get the same buzz coming into the office each day as I did on the day I started. It’s just a great place to work. It’s the people that make it great, and in that area we are spoilt. Not only by the quality of people who work for the company, but also by the passion that they show for what we do.
Our vision is to change workplace behaviour for good. We know that compliance training is not number one on the list of things people want to do at work; however, we also know that it’s vital for organisations to protect their brand and their people to ensure their organisation thrives. So, we make sure that our training is developed in a way that makes it engaging while ensuring it meets all the applicable legal requirements. To ensure that it’s engaging, we tell stories. The reality is that the truth is stranger than fiction when it comes to workplace compliance issues, so making those stories come to life is our mantra. Who doesn’t love a good story? Especially when it’s based on fact.
Sadly, people continue to do inappropriate things in the workplace as they do in life, and I’m not sure that will ever change. So, our aim is to at least help organisations to develop a culture whereby people can identify inappropriate behaviour and feel comfortable speaking up and acting. By doing so, they are likely to protect fellow workers who may be in harm’s way or protect the organisation against unscrupulous acts.
I have had the privilege this year of working closely with Damian and Rae Panlock – the parents of Brodie Panlock. Brodie tragically took her own life as a result of relentless workplace bullying in Victoria over 10 years ago. Damian and Rae have dedicated their lives to telling Brodie’s story, hoping to eradicate workplace bullying. They were instrumental in helping to create Brodie’s Law, which was introduced into Victoria in 2011. Brodie’s Law made bullying a criminal offence, and Damian and Rae continue to tell their story to thousands of people each year. What they do aligns perfectly with Learning Seat’s vision of changing workplace behaviour for good, which they epitomise. Our commitment to the Panlocks is to continue to help them tell their story and spread their message around the country.
This year has been a good one for Learning Seat. The business is in great shape and continues to grow. We released a number of new training courses this year and we’re expanding our offering to cover areas such as cybercrime, financial services compliance, risk analysis and whistleblowing services. We are continuing to invest heavily in our technology platforms and look forward to a number of new releases in the coming year.
Another important initiative for us this year was the development of our partner program. We now have a number of local technology vendors who take our online training courses to market, helping them to expand their offering to their clients while helping us to diversify our base. We see great opportunities in this area and will continue to expand it.
So, we look forward to an exciting year ahead and really hope yours is as well. To all our customers, partners, friends and colleagues, I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a wonderful new year ahead.
